It's been almost two weeks since Teesside University student, Megan Daniels, 19, was crowned Miss Tees Valley 2018 at the sold out live grand final!! Megan has already appeared on the front page and inside of the Gazette and has had a live interview on Tyne & Wear TV! As she prepares to now represent the Tees Valley at the Supermodel England national final in November, we caught up with Megan to get her take on her experience in the competition and to find out a little bit more about the areas top beauty queen!

Alexandra: How did it feel to hear your name called as the winner of Miss Tees Valley?

Megan: When I heard my name called I was amazed, as all I was thinking in my head was that I was happy to have made it to the top 8, so I was very overwhelmed & excited all in one!

Megan placed in the top 3 of all 4 of the special awards in the competition: Miss Photogenic, Miss Sportswoman, Miss Congenialty and Miss Catwalk for a Cause.

Alexandra: In the run up to the live final you raised a fantastic £2,900+ for Zoes Place and the MFC Foundation, what did you do to raise such an incredible amount?

Megan: I did number of events including a band night, a coffee morning, a 10k sponsored run, it’s a knock out and a car boot sale, as well as collecting money at my work. I'm really pleased with how much I was able to raise.

Alexandra: What did you enjoy most about taking part in the competition?

I enjoyed a lot of things but mostly meeting the girls, raising money for charity & the glamour of the occasion, the final was definitely an experience I will never forget.

Alexandra: If you could give one piece of advice to any girls thinking about entering Miss Tees Valley what would it be?

Megan: The advice I would give is to go for it, you may not get the amazing opportunity to do it again, believe in yourself.

In her spare time Megan likes to exercise and socialise with friends, as well as learning new songs on her guitar. Her favourite colour is red, her two favourite animals are dogs and dolphins and she would love to travel to the Maldives.

Alexandra: How would your friends and family describe you?

Megan: My friends & family would describe me as caring/loveable, funny, adventurous and hardworking.

Thank you to Megan for taking the time to catch up with us! In the next few weeks Megan will be visiting the Cleveland Centre, Middlesbrough for her first photoshoot as the new face of the centre and to be presented with her £500 winners gift card for Cleveland Centre stores and will be heading to Flawless Photography Studio for her winner's portfolio shoot worth £395!

On the morning of June 13th 2017, Miss Tees Valley 2017, Mollie Kell arrived at Manchester Airport to start the trip of a lifetime.....

After winning the Miss Catwalk for a Cause award at the 2017 Live Grand Final in September for raising over £3,700 for Zoes Place Baby Hospice, Middlesbrough and also going on to win the overall Miss Tees Valley 2017 title, Mollie was offered the chance to take on the 3 day Alps Trek Challenge in aid of Zoes Place!!

Mollie arrived in Chamonix, France late afternoon on the 13th June, where she met the trekking team for the first time. Mollie would be joined on the challenge by 3 guides and 18 other fundraisers. During the briefing for the next 3 days the team were told how the conditions up the mountain would be more extreme than normal at this time of year, due to a heavy snow fall later than normal in the season! The whole team were in great spirits though and went onto the enjoy a fantastic BBQ organised by the hotel.

Day 1: Due to a road closure due to the poor conditions up the mountain, the team were tasked with starting the trek with an extra 4km of walking to get to the normal starting point. Despite there being a lot of snow on the ground, the weather was incredible, not a cloud in the sky and the perfect temperature for hiking! The guide explained how people come to the alps for weeks on end and dont get as perfect weather! Due to the heavy snow, Moliie and the team had to cross huge patches of snow on the slippery slopes, local guide and mountaineer Alan was on hand with his ice pick to carve out safe paths! In total today Mollie walked over 22km and climbed 1100 metres during the 10 hour hike crossing the French, Swiss and Italien boarders!! Tonights accomodation would be in a tiny village in the Swiss Alps. Mollie and the trekkers stayed in "bunk rooms" which was incredible fun!

Day 2: Everyone was feeling tired this morning after the big trek yesterday! Todays hike would be 18km, mainly flat along the valley with a 500m climb at the very end to get to Champex, the village Mollie and the team would be staying in that evening. During the hike along the valley the team were very lucky to see some mountain deer running on the rocky slopes and pass through some traditional Swiss Mountain Villages! On arrival at the stunning Hotel Splendide, the trekking team were treated with increidble views from their rooms' balconies and a fabulous 3 course dinner!

Day 3: The final day of the challenge would be another difficult day of climbing, 20km in total and 1000m climbed! Todays challenges also included crossing rocky and fast flowing rivers. At the end of the challenge on return to Chamonix the team enjoyed a fantastic celebration dinner and medals were awarded!

The next day, the team had time to explore stunning Chamonix and then say their goodbyes as they headed back to the airport in the afternoon! Since winnng the Miss Tees Valley title Mollie continued her inspirational fundraising efforts raising another £1,500 for Zoes Place, bringing her individual fundraising total since starting her Miss Tees Valley journey to over £5,000!! WOW!!

Beauty Queens including the current Miss Tees Valley, Mollie Kell gathered at the Cleveland Centre, Middlesbrough to celebrate Envied Events crossing the £100,000 fundraising milestone for various UK charities. Envied Events organises the Miss Tees Valley, Miss North Yorkshire and Miss West Yorkshire regional finals, as well as the Supermodel England National Competition.

Owner and competition organiser, Alexandra Devine, 27, a former beauty queen and former student of Egglescliffe School started the business in late 2011 after graduating from the University of Manchester, she said “I am so proud to be able to sit with such an inspiring group of young women to celebrate such a fabulous achievement. This is a collective effort of over 200 contestants. When my first competition was staged live in 2012, I never dreamed we could achieve so much for such incredible charities in such a short space of time”.

Beneficiaries of the modelling competitions organised by Alexandra include, Zoes Place Baby Hospice, Middlesbrough (£42,000+ raised), the Butterwick Hospice (£31,800+ raised) and Candlelighters Yorkshire’s Childrens Cancer Charity (£29,000+), as well as smaller amounts going to the Kirkwood Hospice and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

“Whilst the competitions are about modelling, I think it’s really important that we encourage inner beauty too, we put such a big emphasis on charity work, working in the local community and the contestants forming positive relationships with each other.” said Alexandra. Miss Tees Valley 2016, Ellie Tyers, who also attended the photoshoot said, “Well done to everyone involved, I feel so proud”. Alexandra added, “Its thanks to all of our competition sponsors, including the Cleveland Centre that allow the competitions to keep running year after year, which facilitate us being able to raise such brilliant amounts for worthy local causes”.
