Over the past 10 days we have been so happy to hear from Rebecca that she is having an incredible time and has made some fantastic friends from across the globe!! The Live Grand Final is taking place tomorrow night (July 14th) and whatever the outcome, we are so so proud of Rebecca who has represented England and the Tees Valley incredibly!!! Since our formation in 2012, the Miss Tees Valley organisation has been an avid supporter of raising awareness for environmental issues. Each year we see our incredible finalists model their hand-made ‘Eco Wear’ creations on the catwalk at the Live Grand Final to promote recycling and reusing. Over the years we’ve seen sensational designs that wouldn’t look out of place on the runways of London, Milan or Paris, made from: newspapers, plastic bottles, old CDs, bubble wrap, sweet wrappers, and old christmas decorations, just to name a few!

For the 2017 competition, we decided to swap the catwalk for the camera, with our 2017 finalists, alongside our reigning winner, Miss Tees Valley 2016, Ellie Tyers stepping in front of the lens for the photographic campaign, “The World is in our Hands - Refuse, Reuse, Recycle”, Shot at Crimdon Beach, Hartlepool.

Miss Tees Valley 2016, Ellie Tyers takes part in the incredibly important Smear for Smear Campaign.

The Smear for Smear campaign from Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust urges women to smear lipstick on to their faces, take a ‘selfie’ and share it on social media with #SmearforSmear and @JoTrust. They are encouraged to nominate others to do the same, to highlight the importance of smear tests to combat cervical cancer.

The charity says cervical screening saves 5,000 lives a year yet one in five women who are eligible to attend do not take up their invitation. For young women aged 25 to 29 this rises to one in three.

Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust comms manager Maddy Durrant said she believed "hundreds" of posts had been published already since the campaign was launched on Sunday.

Cervical cancer can be prevented.

Join the campaign at 11am on 22 January 2017 and share your #SmearForSmear to raise awareness of the importance of smear tests in preventing cervical cancer. The campaign runs from 22-28 January during Cervical Cancer Prevention Week.

We caught up with Ellie Jay Tyers for a chat since she become our Miss Tees Valley 2016!

How did it feel when your name was called at the winner?

"When I was announced as the winner i instantly started crying! It was amazing, I couldnt believe i'd actually done it. There was so many amazing girls in the competition, who had so much experience in the pageant/modelling industry and this was my first time at anything of the sort! I still cant believe it!"

Other than being our new Miss Tees Valley, tell us a bit about you....?

"As well as being Miss Tees Valley, I am also a teaching apprentice in one of my local schools. I love my job as i get to work with a diverse range of children and staff, who have all been really supportive of my achievement!"

What have you been up to since winning the title last week?

Since winning the title, I have done some fantastic things already such as opening the new 'The Dressworx' store in Hartlepool and taking part in prom catwalks. I especially loved my day at Flawless Photography for my winners portfolio shoot. Everything about the day was perfect and I was lucky to recieve such a fantastic prize package from them!

What are you most looking forward to about your upcoming year?

I am really excited for everything this year has in store for me! In particular; i cant wait for my Grand Canyon Trek for Zoes Place Baby Hospice, which i get to take part in along with Miss Catwalk for a Cause winner, Natasha. I will be doing a lot more charity fundraising too, which i cant wait to do!

What advise would you give to anyone considering competing in the competition?

I would advise anyone who considers competing in Miss Tees Valley to go for it. Before this competition, I had no experience in modelling, but the confidence it has given me is amazing! Also, to anyone who is lucky enough to reach the final, I would tell them to enjoy every last second of it and to just be yourself because being unique makes you stand out! I wish i could do it all over again!
